As Co-Founder of Virtual Accounting Advisors LLC, Michael McDonough has over 30 years of experience in finance and accounting. He has worked in large regional accounting firms as well as private industry, providing accounting and business advisory services, tax planning, and preparation.

Mike has helped small and medium-sized companies at all stages, from startups implementing business plans and accounting systems to businesses navigating transitions such as sales or succession.

Mike was born and raised in Marshfield, Massachusetts, and is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Massachusetts. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Management Science and Accounting from Bridgewater State University and his Master’s of Taxation from Northeastern University.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys boating and spending time with his wife and two children in Maine.

As Managing Partner of Virtual Accounting Advisors LLC, Jennifer Banner brings over 15 years of accounting experience to the businesses that VAA serve.

Born and raised in southeastern Virginia and now based in Kentucky, Jen has built her career helping small to medium-sized businesses streamline their finances and grow with confidence.

Jen is a Certified Public Bookkeeper and specializes in one of her favorite areas of accounting—cleanup work, from small to large projects that bring clarity and order to financial records.

What Jen enjoys most about this profession is working closely with her team and clients to provide reliable, accurate bookkeeping support that allows them to focus on running their businesses.

Outside of work, Jen enjoys spending time with her family and their German Shepherd, Lexi.

CLIENT SERVICES MANAGER

Laura Lambertson brings over 20 years of experience in the accounting field to her role as lead bookkeeper at Virtual Accounting Advisors LLC. Her love for numbers started early in life, and she has always found comfort in the honesty and consistency of math.

After spending much of her career in traditional, high-impact roles, Laura embraced the shift to virtual accounting and furthered her education by earning her Certified Public Bookkeeper license.

At Virtual Accounting Advisors, Laura gets to combine her passion for numbers with helping business owners save valuable time so they can focus on running and growing their businesses.

Outside of work, Laura loves to travel, with a personal goal of visiting one new country each year — so far, she has marked seven off her list (only 188 to go!)

JUNIOR BOOKKEEPER

As Junior Bookkeeper at Virtual Accounting Advisors LLC, Melissa Fryman showcases her unique background in accounting and public service.

Before joining the team, she spent 15 years at the Internal Revenue Service, gaining experience in multiple divisions including Data Transcriber, Accounting Technician, and the Lien Department. During that time, she also completed Accounting 1&2 courses, which gave her a solid foundation in the field.

After Melissa’s tenure at the IRS, she pursued a new path by establishing an agricultural business on her 30-acre farm in Butler, Kentucky. This experience strengthened her problem-solving skills and deepened her appreciation for hands-on work and the outdoors.

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys fishing, frisbee golf, and cheering on University of Kentucky basketball and the Cincinnati Bengals. As a lifelong Northern Kentucky resident, she loves sharing local favorites — such as the goetta and chili dogs!

SUPPORT ADMINISTRATOR

As Support Administrator at Virtual Accounting Advisors LLC, Barbara Gilmartin brings years of experience in accounting and operational support, including roles in inventory control, accounting supervision, and program deployment. She has expertise in Excel, SAP, Oracle, and QuickBooks, which helps her keep the team running smoothly and efficiently.

Outside of work, Barbara enjoys spending time with family, crafting original quilt designs, and supporting her community as Treasurer of the GFWC Women’s Club of Labelle, Florida.

BOOKKEEPING PROADVISOR

Tina Carvalho is an experienced accounting professional who brings over a decade of expertise in bookkeeping, tax compliance, and financial reporting to Virtual Accounting Advisors LLC.

She has supported organizations across industries from nonprofits and small businesses to large manufacturing companies, managing full-cycle bookkeeping, multi-state tax compliance, and audit support. She is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and she is certified in nonprofit bookkeeping.

Outside of work, Tina enjoys continuous learning and DIY projects, always finding new ways to apply her creativity and problem-solving skills both personally and professionally.

BOOKKEEPING PROADVISOR

Lis Galvin has worked in the accounting field since 1991. She majored in accounting in college, and right out of college she started working with a company in the accounting department.

Lis stayed at that company for 29 years, but right before COVID hit, it was time to make a change. During COVID, a high school classmate reached out that he had a potential position for Lis with a friend of his, Michael McDonough, co-owner of Nielsen, McDonough & Company, LLC. This was the best decision Lis had ever made.

Throughout her career, Lis has experienced the best of both worlds —learning tax prep work as well as managing several books for companies. She has always loved working with numbers and continue to enjoy helping business owners free up their time to grow their businesses. 

In her free time, Lis loves being outdoors, taking long walks by the water, and in the summer, she enjoys gardening.

As a dedicated bookkeeper with over a decade of experience, Mary Girardi specializes in providing remote accounting and financial services to businesses in the cannabis industry.

Mary was born and raised in Florida, where she began her career at Intuit. Here, she built a strong foundation in bookkeeping, client support, and financial technology.

Today, Mary works independently with a range of cannabis industry clients, helping them stay compliant, organized, and financially sound. She bring a deep understanding of the unique challenges in this fast-growing sector, along with a commitment to accuracy, discretion, and client success.

Outside of work, Mary is a proud wife and mom to three amazing kids. Her family are big fans of Disney and baseball, and she loves making memories with them both at the parks and at the ballpark.
